Rockstar Games premiered Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix on 27 August 2026, then published it on its YouTube channel and on the official GTA VI site six hours later. In parallel, several outlets were invited to Rockstar Games' headquarters for a gameplay presentation. This page collects what came out of both, and consistently separates what Rockstar showed from what the press reports.

What is GTA 6: An Extended Look?

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is an official Rockstar Games video presentation, premiered on Netflix on 27 August 2026 at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm BST, then published six hours later on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and on rockstargames.com/VI. Neither Rockstar nor Netflix published an official runtime.

The wanted system goes back to six stars

The wanted meter is back to six stars, as it was before GTA V. The logic behind it has changed: the police no longer react to a counter, they investigate.

  • Law enforcement identifies the player by clothing, accessories, group size, vehicle and weapon.
  • A crime is only reported if there is a witness: an NPC or a security camera. No witness, no alert.
  • Investigators attend crime scenes.
  • During a chase, police no longer appear on the minimap.

The direct consequence: changing outfit, ditching a vehicle or working without witnesses becomes a mechanic rather than a trick.

Jason and Lucia: a couple, not two independent protagonists

GTA V offered three self-contained characters. GTA 6 is built on a relationship.

  • Instant switching between Jason and Lucia.
  • Some sequences are played as a duo, simultaneously: robberies, fishing, activities.
  • The relationship has to be maintained: text messages, shared activities. Breaking up is not possible: the bond is written into the story.

Each character has their own honour system and criminal profile.

A life-simulation layer GTA 5 never had

  • The body changes: weight loss or gain, driven by diet and physical activity.
  • Sleep and health have to be managed.
  • Haircuts, shaving and working out are available.
  • Several safehouses are available without buying them, in the spirit of Red Dead Redemption II's camps.
  • The fridge can be stocked, with concrete effects: beer boosts Focus, an apple restores Health.

Stealing a car is now a mini-game

Rockstar Games has published no vehicle count. What was shown are the mechanics:

  • Theft difficulty varies by vehicle, with dedicated mini-games.
  • Electronic locks, key duplicators and GPS trackers come into play.
  • The WAINK app shows theft difficulty and resale value.
  • Vehicles need fuel, or charging if electric.
  • Motorcycle helmets are optional.
  • Some parked cars need tools before they can be opened.

On the money side, the player has a bank account and a cash wallet. Fences buy stolen goods and flag which vehicles are wanted.

Open-ended missions, chapters, and around 80 hours

  • Missions are open-ended: several approaches reach the same objective.
  • Narrative choices branch.
  • Some missions are gated until the player has enough money.
  • The game is split into chapters.
  • The length given at the presentation is around 80 hours for the story plus side missions.

Some shops refuse to be robbed and can shoot back; NPCs are described as more aggressive than in previous entries.

Seventeen confirmed activities

Boxing · basketball · scuba diving · weightlifting · kayaking · circuit races (16 racers, 2 laps) · off-road races (12 racers, bikes and quads) · night street races (6 racers) · timed shooting ranges · parachute jumps from tall structures · fishing solo or as a couple · the Trunk Challenge (dangerous driving with a passenger livestreaming) · television · sunbathing · robberies solo or as a duo · lap dances · nightclubs.

What Rockstar still has not confirmed

  • No PC version. No date, no statement of intent. The only confirmed platforms remain PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • No first-person mode at launch. A 30 fps target was mentioned by the director at the presentation, without an official Rockstar Games statement confirming it.
  • Nothing about multiplayer or a GTA Online equivalent.
  • No map area, no vehicle count, no number of locations or radio stations. The figures circulating online are fan estimates.

In short

The game releases on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, in Standard ($79.99) and Ultimate ($99.99) editions. The Extended Look confirms a clear direction: less arcade than GTA V, a life-simulation layer inherited from Red Dead Redemption II, and a police system built on witnesses and evidence rather than a star counter.
