Rockstar Games has made no announcement about a multiplayer mode for Grand Theft Auto VI. No date, no player count per session, no name, no business model. Everything the studio has communicated so far concerns the single-player game. This page states what is established, and stops there.
What Rockstar Games has confirmed
Nothing about multiplayer. The official communications, the trailers, the product page, the pre-order announcement of 25 June 2026 and Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, broadcast on 27 August 2026, never mention an online mode.
The Standard and Ultimate editions are described purely by their single-player contents. Neither lists a subscription or online access.
Why everyone expects an online mode anyway
The precedent is real, but it is only a precedent. GTA Online launched on 1 October 2013, two weeks after Grand Theft Auto V, and Rockstar supported it for more than a decade. Red Dead Online followed the same pattern after Red Dead Redemption II.
It is therefore reasonable to expect an online mode to exist. That is not the same as knowing when, in what form, or with how many players, and this wiki will not present an inference as information.
What you will read elsewhere, and why it is not here
Several figures circulate, notably a precise player count per session, drawn from internal Rockstar Games communications made public through court proceedings, or from the 2022 leaks.
This wiki does not publish that material, for two reasons. First, an internal working note does not describe a finished product: a technical test is not a specification. Second, Take-Two Interactive actively pursues the removal of content built on those materials.
When will we know?
Historically, Rockstar Games discusses its online mode after the single-player release, not before. If the studio follows the GTA V and Red Dead Redemption II pattern, an announcement would come after 19 November 2026.
