There is no Grand Theft Auto VI walkthrough, and there cannot be one before 19 November 2026. Rockstar Games has published no mission list, no progression order and no chapter title. What this guide does set out is how the game is structured, what is confirmed about its progression, and why a classic linear walkthrough will not be enough here.
It is written to be read before launch. On the day, it will tell you what to look for and in what order, rather than have you discover the story in a wall of text.
Last checked: 31 August 2026. This page will be completed at launch.
Why no walkthrough exists today
A walkthrough is built by playing. Nobody outside Rockstar Games has played Grand Theft Auto VI, and the twenty-six minutes of gameplay shown on 27 August 2026 are not a playthrough: they are an edited demonstration.
Any page offering a mission list, a chapter order or an ending guide today is inventing its content. We will not publish that list until we have the game in hand, and this page carries the date it was last checked so that you can see for yourself.
What follows, on the other hand, is confirmed, and is enough to prepare a run.
The game is split into chapters
This is the first confirmed piece of structure: Grand Theft Auto VI is split into chapters. Progression is therefore not a plain numbered mission list as in GTA 5, but a sequence of acts.
That has a direct consequence for how a walkthrough reads. A chapter closes possibilities and opens others. What was reachable in chapter two is not necessarily reachable in chapter five, and the order in which you do things inside a chapter matters more than in a fully open game.
Rockstar Games has published neither the number of chapters, nor their titles, nor their length.
Open missions, with several approaches
The second confirmed point, and the most important for anyone looking for a walkthrough: missions are open, with several possible approaches to the same objective.
That is a clean break from GTA 5, where a failed mission was replayed identically until you found the single intended solution. Here there will not be one right way, but several, and a walkthrough describing a single path will miss the game.
In practice it means the question to ask on 19 November is not "how do I do this mission" but "what options does this mission leave me". The useful guides will be the ones that list approaches, not the ones that impose a route.
The police change how you approach a mission
A GTA 5 walkthrough could ignore the police: they turned up regardless. In Grand Theft Auto VI, a crime is only reported if a witness or a camera sees it. Stealth becomes an approach in its own right, not merely a play style.
The rest follows the same logic. The wanted system returns to six stars. The police identify the player by clothing, accessories, the number of people present, the vehicle and the weapon. Investigators are sent to crime scenes. And during a chase, the police no longer appear on the minimap.
For a walkthrough, that means a mission is not a sequence of actions. Preparation counts: the outfit worn, the vehicle used, the hour chosen, the number of accomplices. Two players who complete the same mission may have gone about it in ways with nothing in common.
Narrative choices that branch
The game contains narrative choices with branches. A single linear walkthrough is therefore structurally impossible: two players may not see the same sequel.
That is also what will make the question of missable content genuinely serious. In a branching game, some scenes close for good depending on your decisions. We do not yet know which, and we will not guess.
Our advice, valid right now: if you want to see everything, save before the moments that feel decisive to you. That is a method, not a claim about the game.
Missions locked by money
A confirmed point, and an easy one to underestimate: some missions are locked until the player has enough money.
Money is not a side concern, then, it is a condition of progress. A Grand Theft Auto VI walkthrough will have to include passages where the right move is not a mission but an income. A player who has spent everything on clothes and cars will end up stuck in front of a story door.
The detail of the confirmed economy is on our page about money and income sources.
Two characters, and an instant switch
The game allows an instant switch between Jason and Lucia, and offers sequences played as a simultaneous duo. A couple relationship is maintained by text messages and shared activities; it cannot be broken off, it is tied to the plot.
For a walkthrough that changes two things. First, each character's state counts separately: both protagonists have their own honour system and criminal profile. Second, some sequences are not solved by playing one character hard, but by coordinating the two.
These are mechanics to learn early. They will probably be where GTA 5 habits cost the most time.
Around 80 hours: what that figure means
The length given at the press presentation is around 80 hours, main story and side content combined. That value comes from the presentation held at Rockstar Games headquarters and was not published on the Newswire: we give it as a relayed statement, not as an official figure.
What it lets you anticipate is simple. A game of that length is not finished in a weekend, and a complete walkthrough will take several days to exist after launch. On 20 November, be wary of any page claiming to already cover the ending.
What Rockstar Games has not said
As of today, nothing is confirmed about:
- the number of chapters, their titles, their order;
- the number of missions, main or side;
- whether there are multiple endings, and how many;
- the list of missable content;
- whether collectibles, treasure maps or an equivalent of the GTA 5 hidden letters exist;
- whether a New Game Plus mode exists;
- the content and date of the online mode.
Each of those will come back into this page as soon as a source exists.
How to use a walkthrough without spoiling the game
A note on method, this one valid whatever the final content turns out to be:
1. play the first chapter with no guide at all, that is where the game teaches you its rules and a guide would rob you of it;
2. when you get stuck, look for a mission's possible approaches rather than its solution, since the game offers several;
3. before a decision that feels heavy, save manually;
4. keep an eye on your money, which gates the opening of some missions;
5. wait at least a week before consulting any ending guide, long enough for the first walkthroughs to have been genuinely checked.
This page will follow that method. It will publish a chapter list only once that list has been played through with a controller in hand, and each update will state what has been checked and what is still open.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a complete GTA 6 walkthrough?
No. The game comes out on 19 November 2026 and nobody outside Rockstar Games has played it. Any mission list published today is invented.
How long does it take to finish GTA 6?
Around 80 hours, story and side content combined, according to the press presentation held at Rockstar Games headquarters. Rockstar Games has not published that figure on its Newswire.
Does the game have multiple endings?
Rockstar Games has confirmed narrative choices with branches, but has never mentioned multiple endings or their number. The two claims are not equivalent.
Can content be missed for good?
The game has branches, so it is likely, but no list of missable content exists. Saving before an important decision remains the only useful precaution.
Do you need money to advance the story?
Yes. Some missions are locked until the player has enough money. No threshold has been published.
Is there only one way to do a mission?
No. Missions are open: several approaches are possible for the same objective. It is one of the sharpest departures from GTA 5.
